First Baptist Weekday Education Center

Meet our Director

Marcie Penland, has been the Director of First Baptist Weekday Education Center since November of 1983. She and other ladies in the church helped to start “First Baptist Preschool” which began as a Mother’s Morning Out program. After graduating from North Georgia College with a BS in Biology, a minor in Chemistry and a degree in Nursing, Marcie was employed as a registered nurse for several years prior to coming to First Baptist.  Her job as a department head with Hospital Corporation of America brought extensive management experience and she subsequently took many business related courses to better assist her in that capacity.   She brings that experience and education to her position as administrator of the Weekday Center.

Marcie wholeheartedly supports the Weekday Center Mission Statement which is: “First Baptist Weekday Education Center exists under the umbrella of First Baptist Church and functions to meet the mental, emotional, physical, social and spiritual needs of children during their formative years by providing the highest quality care for children while keeping them safe and well.  The Weekday Center also exists to reflect God’s love for children and others and to provide a Christian environment in which both children and staff are able to thrive.”

Marcie has been married to Sam Penland for over 40 years and they have three children, Nicole, Tiffany and Samuel as well as two grandchildren.
