COVID-19 Update

April 27, 2020

First Baptist Church of Ellijay Family,

In an effort to keep our church family informed, we are providing the following update regarding our church and services:

At this time, per the recommendation of our Safety Advisory Team, FBC Ellijay remains at the most restrictive level of our church’s Pandemic Plan, and all procedures set forth on April 1 remain in place (see below for previous statement). All church activities remain suspended and the church buildings and offices are closed. This situation is fluid and ever-changing.  Because of that, we cannot definitively say at this moment when we will be able to meet again.  We are hoping that we will be able to meet as a church in some capacity on the 24th of May. But this is contingent upon the situation of our county as we get closer to that date, as well as upon continued guidance and directives from authorities.

The Safety Advisory Team is currently working on a comprehensive plan for moving forward, and we will continue to communicate regularly with our church family as the path forward becomes clearer in the next few weeks and as our plans are finalized. Please pray for God’s wisdom and clear direction as this team makes critical decisions in the coming weeks. We will provide another update on May 1, if not before.

We are in awe of God’s faithfulness to us during this time, and we are truly blessed to be part of such an amazing church family. Thank you for your faithfulness and your love. We ask you to continue to be faithful as you have been – continue to meet virtually instead of in person, continue to pray, continue to join us online for Sunday worship services and Wednesday night prayer meetings, and continue to communicate any needs to our staff.

Romans 15:13 “May the God of hope fill you with all joy and peace as you trust in Him, so that you may overflow with hope by the power of the Holy Spirit.”

We love you!

COVID-19 Update

April 1, 2020

First Baptist Church of Ellijay Family,

Due to the corona virus and the "Shelter In Place" mandate for Gilmer County, all church activities are currently suspended and the church buildings and office are closed. Our ministers and staff are serving our church and community from home and can be reached by phone or email through the website, or by contacting the church secretary at 706-273-0481.

During these unprecedented times, please know that we are here for our church family! We are live-streaming our worship services every week and are finding creative ways to continue to minister and connect with each other. Check out the "Church Online" tab on our website for a wide variety of resources to help you stay connected to God and to our church family.

How can you help?

  • Pray! For the safety and protection of our church family and community.
  • Call the church secretary or a staff member to let us know of needs that arise.
  • Find creative ways to show love to those around you - make a phone call, send a card, order groceries for someone on-line.
  • Meet with your Sunday school class and/or Bible study group using technology such as Zoom and Right Now Media.
  • Continue to faithfully give. The work of your church continues with our support of missions, ministries, our staff, and the general operating expenses during this time. You can continue your financial support through online giving, bill pay, or by mailing your contributions directly to the church.

We will continue to communicate with you as decisions and plans are made. We find ourselves in unprecedented, unsettling times. But none of this is a surprise to God. As Psalm 31:5 reminds us, our times are in His hands. We will get through this in the strength of God and by relying on each other.

Psalm 91:1-2  Whoever dwells in the shelter of the Most High will rest in the shadow of the Almighty. I will say of the Lord, "He is my refuge and fortress, my God, in whom I trust."

We love you!
