Dr. David L. Drake: Senior Pastor

Dr. David L. Drake came to First Baptist Church in Ellijay in June of 2006. He and his wife, Marilyn came to Ellijay from Waycross, Georgia as they were involved in full time ministry with the Central Baptist Church. Dr. Drake is a graduate from the Henry Grady High School in Atlanta. Dr. and Mrs. Drake were married in 1974 and in 1976 moved to Dallas, Texas where he enrolled at Criswell College and graduated with a B.A. degree in Biblical Studies. Dr. Drake finished his Master of Divinity degree at the Southwestern Baptist Theological Seminary in Fort Worth, Texas in 1981 and his Doctor of Ministry degree from the Luther Rice Seminary in 1989. The Drakes have had the wonderful privilege to minister in Georgia, Florida, and Texas. Dr. Drake has served on the local, statewide, and national Denominational level. David and Marilyn are the parents of two married sons: Jonathan and Jordan.

Mike Hayden: Pastor of Education Administration

Mike Hayden has been on staff since October of 1984. He is a graduate of Mississippi State University with a Bachelor of Science in Electrical Engineering, and The Southern Baptist Theological Seminary with a Master of Divinity. He has served here as Minister of Education & Youth, Minister of Education, and is now Minister of Education & Administration. He has served in churches in Jackson, MS (where he grew up), Miramar, FL (where he met his wife, Marcia), Louisville, KY (while in seminary), and Orangeburg, SC. He has served in several capacities within the Mountaintown Baptist Association over the years. Mike and Marcia have two daughters, Kayann (a graduate of Georgia State University, and Cumberland School of Law), and Suzanne Land (a graduate of Georgia State University).


Scott Eaton: Music Worship Pastor

Scott Eaton has served as Minister of Music and Worship at First Baptist since 1998. He is a 1979 graduate of Walton High School in Marietta, GA. He has a Bachelors degree in Music from Liberty University in Lynchburg, VA and a Masters in Church Music from Southwestern Theological Seminary in Fort Worth, TX. Before coming to FBC he had served at Gethsemane Baptist Church in Danville, KY and Floyd Springs Baptist Church in Armuchee, GA. Scott has been married to his wife Paige for 16 years. Paige is a native of Cedartown, GA. She is a teacher at the Ellijay Primary Elementary School. They have two boys, Seth age 13 and Sawyer age 10.


Beth Umberger: Music



Alice Holt: Director of Children's Ministries

Alice Holt, Director of Children and Preschool Ministries joined the staff of First Baptist Ellijay in 2002. She is a 1999 graduate of Ouachita Baptist University with a degree in Family Life Ministries/Christian Counseling. She has been married to Chris since October 2003 and they have one daughter Jordan.


Josh & Katherine Moyer: Student Minister

Josh and Katherine Moyers joined the staff of First Baptist Ellijay in October of 2007. They work with the middle and high school students of Gilmer county as well as the college students of the community. Josh is currently attending New Orleans Baptist Theological Seminary. Josh and Katherine both grew up in Cobb county where Josh graduated from McEachern High School and Katheirne graduated from North Cobb Christian School. Josh and Katherine have been married since September 15, 2007. They both have a passion to see students come to a deeper and more meaningful relationship with Jesus Christ.


Marcie Penland: Weekday Education Director

First Baptist Weekday Education Center Director, Marcie Penland, has been employed by FBC since November of 1983. She and other ladies in the church helped to start “First Baptist Preschool” which began as a Mother’s Morning Out program. Prior to working at First Baptist, Marcie was employed as a registered nurse. She brings that experience and education to her position as administrator of the Weekday Program. Marcie has been married to Sam Penland for over 30 years and they have three children, Nicole, Tiffany and Samuel.


Linda Hoek: Office Manager Financial Secretary

Linda Hoek has been a member of First Baptist Church since 1984 and joined the office staff in October 2000. Linda is the Financial Secretary/Office Manager and feels blessed to be a part of the team at FBC. Linda is the wife of Russell Hoek and they are the proud parents of Kimberly Smith, Russell Hoek, Kevin Hoek, all of Ellijay. They also have three children out of state, Rick Hoek of Connecticut , Cathy Behm of Omeha , NE and David Hoek of Seattle Washington . They have 10 wonderful grandchildren.


Charlotte Rary: Church Secretary

I have been employed as a secretary at FBC since June, 2005. I have been a resident of Pickens County for 22 years. Family members include my son, Chuck and my daughter and son-in-law, Nicole and Joe McLain. I am a member of Woodstock First Baptist Church in Woodstock, GA.


Greg Luther: Director of Maintenance


Greg Luther has been employed by First Baptist Church since August, 2000. He was born in Cleveland Ohio and later moved to Ft. Lauderdale Florida. Greg has been married for 25 years to Vicki. Vicki works at the Gilmer County Library. They have three children: Chad who attends Dalton State College and works at ETC TV3, Brandon 16, and Heather age 10.
