What does it mean to be a Christian?

Being a Christian is more than taking on a label. For us at First Baptist Church, being a Christian is defined as a person who's heart desire is a fully devoted follower of Jesus Christ. That devotion begins with a full acceptance of Jesus Christ and what He accomplished on the cross and through His resurrection. Romans 10:9 teaches that if we confess Jesus as Lord and believe in our heart that God raised Him from the dead, then we will be saved. Interesting that Paul, the writer of Romans, emphasizes that Jesus Christ is our Lord. With that said, Christians are those who truly allow Jesus to have control of their lives their homes, their dreams, their goals, and future. Christianity is in itself a dying to self and a surrendering to Jesus-- one who wants the absolute best for your life. There is yet another facet of Christianity. To have your sins washed away is great. To submit to Jesus as Lord is wonderful, but to also join His efforts in the kingdom of heaven is greatest joy of all. Is there a Sunday Morning Bible Study for my age group?

Yes, at First Baptist Ellijay, we believe that regular small group Bible Study is an extremely important ingredient in the spiritual diet of every believer. If you would like to find out what Sr. Adult, Adult, Men/Women/Co-Ed, Youth, or Children's classes are available, please visit the Education and Discipleship page under Ministries.

Do I have to dress up to attend your church?

The simple answer is "no." We invite you to attend church dressed how you would like to dress for worship. So basically, we encourage the "dress" part and leave the "up" part to you. On an average Sunday people wear jeans, business casual dress, & suits/dresses in the same service. For us at First Baptist, the MOST IMPORTANT ELEMENT of worship is not your CLOTHES, but your HEART. How do I join the church?

It's important to know that at First Baptist we take church membership seriously. Joining the church means that you are identifying with the Body of Christ-- in other words: you are a full-time representative of Him while you are with us! Therefore, we offer a mandatory four week class to those pursuing church membership. The class talks about what we believe, how we are organized, what ministries we offer, and what is expected of every believer and follower of Jesus. This class is offered every week during the Sunday School hour. It's designed in such a way that you can jump in during any session of the four week cycle. This class is also available to ANY CHURCH ATTENDEE who is interesting in knowing more about church life at First Baptist. What activities are offered on a regular basic for various age groups?
